As a special surprise, the country superstar waited for the family, Shaun, Allysse and daughter Molly, as they came to view their new home, which was provided mortgage-free in a special partnership with Tim, Chase and the Homes on the Homefront program via Operation Homefront. After giving them a tour inside the home, Tim led Molly to the backyard, where her new puppy was waiting. (Watch Tim with the Connor family in the video player below.)
A Hopedale, Mass., native Shaun Connor worked jobs in construction and warehouse work, before enlisting in the Army in 2007. Shortly after graduating basic training, Shaun was deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. After returning home from his tour in 2008, the Army Artilleryman was deployed again the following year. While in Iraq, Shaun suffered a leg injury, which eventually led to his medical retirement from the service. Shaun and Allysse are both going to school full-time and Shaun hopes to use his prospective degree in criminology to get a job with the government after graduation.
Throughout the summer, Tim McGraw took time from his Brothers of the Sun tour stops with Kenny Chesney to present military families with new, mortgage-free homes.
"Each family had touching stories and made an indelible mark on me," Tim says. "I will never forget any of them. The need to take care of the men and women who fight and sacrifice so much for us is great, and this program is only making a dent. I definitely hope to do more down the road."
Tim and his wife, Faith Hill are in preparations for their limited engagement at the Venetian in Las Vegas. The "Soul2Soul at the Venetian" concert series begins Dec. 7 and runs for 10 weekends through April 2013.
