"Kix and I been friends a long time, and I really respect him a lot as a survivor in a business that's hard to survive in," Kenny says. "I think the reason that he's done that is because his foundation is from the songwriting end of it, and he treats people very, very well, and he's treated me great. I look up to Kix a lot."
One example of that came when the pair toured together a few years ago. "My favorite part of the night was when Kix would come out there during my show with just his guitar, and we would sing a song together," the "El Cerrito Place" singer recalls. "Sometimes it'd be the record that he had, 'You Better Kiss Me or You're Gonna Miss Me When I'm Gone,' or we would sing some other song, but it was always a part of the show, of my show, that I looked forward to because it was stripped down, and it was a lot of fun."
Kenny's off the road for a while, but fans see him again when the CMA Awards air on Nov. 1. The road warrior is up for three trophies, including Entertainer of the Year. The ceremony airs live on ABC.
