The same could also be said of iconic songwriter Hank Cochran, who penned hundreds of hit songs in his lifetime while remaining fiercely true to his artistry. His success in both the country and pop music worlds has seen his tunes recorded in every decade since the 1960s. The latest collection of Cochran's unforgettable compositions, an entire album on which Jamey performs Hank tunes with a dazzling array of his fellow contemporary artists, is more than just a loving tribute. It's a true testament to the lasting legacy of Hank Cochran, who died in 2010, but who managed to personally offer Jamey a lifetime worth of invaluable inspiration and encouragement.
In this star-packed video, premiering exclusively on The Boot, Jamey is joined by many of the artists with whom he duets on the album, as they share their thoughts on why Hank Cochran's catalog of tunes remains relevant today, in spite of ever-changing tastes in country music. The clip also features dozens of photos of Hank with many of the artists on the album, in addition to photos of the Mississippi-born songwriter with his family and friends.
Jamey Johnson's Living for a Song: A Tribute to Hank Cochran will be released on Tuesday, Oct. 16.
