First-season "American Idol" champ Kelly Clarkson paid tribute to another "Idol" winner, Carrie Underwood at her Oct. 5 concert in Perth, Australia, by performing a cover of Carrie's current hit, "Blown Away," from Carrie's album of the same name. During the fan request segment of her live show on the Stronger tour, Kelly explained that she uses that time each night to perform a cover version that a fan at the show has asked for via Twitter or Facebook

"I love music more than most people," Kelly told the audience. "I love all different genres. I love anything that sounds soulful and has a heart to it. We've had this song requested quite a bit. I was just trying to wait. I didn't know exactly how I wanted to do it because I knew I wanted to change up the production of it. I love this song; this probably my favorite Carrie Underwood song. It's just super dark and it's really cool."

It may be a good thing Kelly is such a fan of the song. She'll be facing off against Carrie at the CMA Awards on Thursday, Nov. 1. The two are among the nominees for Female Vocalist of the Year. Kelly's new single, "Catch My Breath," is from her Greatest Hits -- Chapter 1 album, which will be released Nov. 19. Kelly is currently on tour in Europe, with a show in Dublin, Ireland, tonight (Oct. 10). See more of her tour dates here.

I kinda liked it. She wasn't horrible or anything. And you really can't compare Kelly's voice to Carrie's. They are two completely different styles. Kelly's version of the song is more rocker chick.... its kinda song in the style of Pink. And by that I mean she has a hardness and rasp to her voice.

I like Kelly and her vocals but I don't believe you can compare Kelly's to Carrie's. They are very different. I don't feel Blown Away was a good choice for her to take on for two reasons.
1. She doesn't have the range Carrie does (no one does) and even if she changes the production of this song she really did it no justice. It just did not sound good at all.
2. Blown Away at the time she sang it (or may still be singing it) was climbing the carts for the #1 postion. Something that is very important to the original artist who is preforming it. That artist should be respected enough for another artist to know now is not the time to be covering that song. Not just Carrie's any artist's with a NEW song recently released, climbing the charts, and the name of a NEW tour and a New album. Professional protocol was not acknowledged by Kelly and will only provoke banter back and forth about who sings it the best, who the best idol, who does this or that better, and turns out to be so jr. high school. Maybe Reba should teach her some higher level of professionalism especially if she is going to live in Nashville and sing country music.

I completely agree with every single word you wrote. I just learned yesterday that Kelly had covered Blown Away and was stupified and turned off that she would do so at this time particularly. And though she has strengths as a singer, the kinds of songs she can sound good on are far more limited than Carrie's. Carrie's is a more distinctive voice, with far greater range both on the scale and texturally. Kelly also covered I Know You Won't, which she apparently heard Carrie do and asked her permission to cover it in a performance. And just to add to more recent stuff about Carrie (hope you've seen her Vh1 profile, which truly shows her personality and how sweet a human being she is), I am a bit disappointed that she followed up Blown Away with the Cadillacs song, because, since she recently also showed a lot of that side of her voice and performance capability in her songs with Steven Tyler, I thought it would be nice to hear that she can still really do the softer, more textured and less highly orchestrated songs justice and reveal her brilliance in the process. I just hope that she doesn't let Do You Think About Me or Wine after Whiskey, or even Thank God for Hometowns slip away without releasing at least one of them (I play Do You Think.... over and over and over). She did this with What Can I Say, for instance. Anyway, I love her and love the fact that she's really quick-witted, funny, smart AND gorgeous. Check out the adorable interview her husband Mike did OF her on the red carpet. They are so great together. She's gifted and blessed. Also, have you heard the young schoolchildren sing some of her songs with her?

Kelly,, simply, messed up; pitchy and can't reach the same vocal range as Carrie's!

I think she is the best vocalist to come from Idol. I think Kellie Pickler is sweet and has sweet songs but Kelly Clarkson is the best. No one else from that show really impresses me. That is the best version of that song.
