"I'm getting along so good, but for example, about three weeks ago I found out I have three cracked teeth from the accident," the 44-year-old tells People magazine. "It's an ongoing recovery and it's not going to be fast. I have neck issues and a five-inch skull fracture, [but] that's healing ... [I'm] doing great and moving forward."
The Tony-winning star was treated for her injuries at a hospital in New York, but says her best medicine came from her own mother. "When the accident happened to me on July 11, my mom had to fly in. I was in trouble and I needed help," Kristin recalls. "I said, 'Why me, why me, why me, why me?' and she said, 'Why not you? You're human like everyone else. Things happen. You're no special or worse than everyone else.'"
The songstress has several more weeks to work on her recovery before she heads to Las Vegas to co-host the American Country Awards with Trace Adkins for the second year in a row. "We had a blast last year," she says, "and I plan to pull out all the stops to make sure everyone has a good time."
The ACAs will air live, Dec. 10 at 8:00 PM ET on FOX. See a full list of nominees here.
