Miranda Lambert CMA Award Win Sparks Girl Power Speech

Katherine Bomboy-Thornton, ABC

Miranda Lambert is the reigning CMA Female Vocalist of the Year, marking her third consecutive year with the title. The singer-songwriter is happy to carry the banner for country music in the female category, although she worries there may be a time when there aren't enough new women breaking into the country-music marketplace.

"When I got my award, I mentioned every woman in that category with me," Miranda says of her fellow nominees, Kelly Clarkson, Martina McBride, Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood. "I grew up on Martina, I used to try to sing like her, but of course no one can. We [women] are very few right now. We have a jolt of women in country, [but] the young females are non-existent right now and I refuse to accept that. I'm one of those girls on top at the moment and I'm so thankful. I feel like there is a time for every artist to have their time, but I know it will come time to pass that trophy on to the next. I hope there's enough females in that category."

The superstar performer adds that there is "some great talent out there. I kicked the door open and I will hold my leg in it to keep it open for other female singer-songwriters. We're gonna do it; we're gonna keep plowing through. It is a man's world in a way, and we love the guys, but we are awesome, too."

Miranda will join Dierks Bentley on the road in 2013, for the Locked & Reloaded trek. Although a list of specific dates has yet to be revealed, you can see a list of the cities the tour will visit here.
