Civil Wars Breakup? Duo's Tour Canceled Due to 'Irreconcilable Differences'

Taylor Hill, FilmMagic

The Civil Wars are taking a break, due to what seems to be a tumultuous situation. The two-time Grammy winning duo posted a statement on their Facebook page today (Nov. 6) announcing the cancellation of the remainder of their scheduled tour dates.

"It is something we deeply regret," write the "Barton Hollow" singers. "However, due to internal discord and irreconcilable differences of ambition we are unable to continue as a touring entity at this time. We thank each and every one of you for your amazing love and support. Our sincere hope is to have new music for you in 2013."

That hope for new music gives us hope the duo aren't completely calling it quits. They do not reveal on Facebook, nor in their many tweets about the matter, whether the "differences" are between the duo's Joy Williams and John Paul White or between the two of them and their record label, management and/or touring staff. But their Twitter page does encourage fans to follow Joy and John Paul's personal, separate accounts.

The Civil Wars shot to fame with their chart-topping debut album, Barton Hollow. The project's haunting harmonies and genre-bending style earned them immense critical acclaim and gold sales certification. In addition to their two Grammys, they are the Americana Music Association's reigning Duo/Group of the Year.

The Civil Wars' unfortunate announcement came just hours after Joy and John Paul performed at London's famed Roundhouse venue. Their note to fans goes on to say they would like to try to reimburse them for any non-refundable travel costs incurred for the nixed shows. Ticket holders can email receipts and questions about reimbursement to info@thecivilwars.com.

Figure out what the problem is and get rid of it. Make the music.

these two are not in a relationship with each other, they are both "happily married" to other people. so i would assume it's more an issue with management than with each other

Sad two adults with talent can't fix their creative differences.
