Ray Price Cancer Diagnosis Hasn't Slowed Legend Down

Ebet Roberts, Redferns

Ray Price has revealed he's battling pancreatic cancer, but the 86-year-old country legend refuses to let the disease stop him from entertaining his adoring fans.

"The doctor said that every man will have cancer if he lives to be old enough," the singer tells the San Antonio Express-News. "I don't know why I got it -- I ain't old."

This is Price's second cancer scare. In 2009, he underwent surgery to remove polyps from his colon. The music icon's latest diagnosis came after gallbladder surgery revealed a tumor. He endured six months of chemotherapy and is happy to report the tumor has not grown and he feels fine. In fact, he headlined a concert in Floresville, Texas, just this past weekend.

But the "Heartaches by the Number" singer isn't out of the woods yet. Doctors informed him that the only possible cure will come from a nine-hour surgery during which his pancreas and part of his liver and stomach would be removed. Price is opting out of the surgery.

"They said that if you live through that, you run straight to the nursing home. That's not very much of an option for me. God knows I want to live as long as I can, but I don't want to live like that."

And he has plenty of living left to do. The Country Music Hall of Famer will hit the studio later this month to record a new album called Love Songs. He also insists he's determined to perform at least 100 shows in 2013.

I'm Sorry To Say That I Lost All Respect For Blake Shelton for reffering to singers like Ray as an old fart. I'm an entertainer at 81 and still going so i guess i'm an old fart too. My Advise to you is , have more respect for those who paved the way so you would have a place to go to, Like The Grand ole Opry and country hall Of Fame.

Who is Blake Shelton? He is a ******* who can't carry a tune just like taylor swift. He cannot be compared to the old timers who still put out country music. Kiss ass in Nashville today and you can win anything. Even Carrie Underwood has dropped to the bottom. A christain does not believe in same sex marriages. The great singers outside Ray Price were, Jim Reeves, Merle Haggard, George Strait, Gene WAtson, and a few others. There is no country music today with what is being recorded. Hang in there George, you are still the greatest there is today and you still stay with country songs. That is why we love you. I no longer watch anything on tv that says it is country. It is nothing but trash and not worthy of my time to be wasted in that way. I listen to cd's and I only buy George Strait and Jim Reeves and Gene Watson. All you have to do today is scream, play loud instruments and talk nasty and you can sell what is being recorded today.

I hate this so called new country. I used to listed to nothing but country music and watched the awards show on TV. I don't listen to country any more because what the singers sing now is not country. When I want to hear some good country music I play my tapes or Cd's. Now even the ones that started out country have switched over to this new country. So I just don't listen anymore. I only know of Blake Shelton from hearing people mention his name. Give me Ray Price, George Jones, Gene Watson, Randy Travis and George Strait any day over all of the so called country singers today.

I wouldn't give you two cents for the country music today. The Grand Ole Opry will never be the same. The music will never be the same. Going to the Ryman and the Capital Music Hall in Wheeling, WV. are memories I will treasure the rest of my life. Greats like Ray, Bill, Marty, Minnie Pearl can never be replaced nor their music. Sure glad I grew up in the 50's and 60's and for Dick Clark and his bandstand in Philly.

Blake Shelton is not worthy to be on the same stage with Ray Price. I don't know one song that Shelton recorded and don't care to.His remarks about the great songs that Ray Price made famous and will continue to live on in the hearts of young and old lovers will be remembered long after Blake who? is forgotten. I'll be praying for your recovery Ray, love you and your music forever,James.
