LeAnn Rimes' 'What Have I Done' Is Heartfelt Apology to Ex

LeAnn Rimes What Have I DoneCurb

It's not hard to guess what LeAnn Rimes is singing about in her brand-new song, "What Have I Done."

"Oh my love, what have I done? / I shot an arrow at your heart that I can't take back / When I said you were my first love, but you are not my last," she laments in the first verse. (Watch LeAnn sing the ballad in an intimate performance below.)

The 30-year-old star tells ABC News that when her ex-husband, Dean Sheremet, first heard the song, he "probably knew what it was about before I did." She goes on to explain that the lyrics were born out of a lingering guilt she's carried over the way her first marriage ended.

"It was very, very difficult. I wouldn't wish it on anyone ... and especially in the public eye to go through all of it," she says, reflecting on the media firestorm over her extramarital affair with now-husband Eddie Cibrian. "I made my choices and I'm living with them. I also have learned from them and I've talked about this so much. But I know that I'm not the only person that goes through this. There's so many that do."

"What Have I Done" will be released to iTunes tomorrow (Nov. 20). It was supposed to be the first official single from LeAnn's upcoming Spitfire album, but "Borrowed" -- another song inspired by her affair with Eddie -- was released to radio first, due to an overwhelming fan demand for the song.

"I carried the title around with me for about eight months, because I was so unsure of how to write it without offending anyone," LeAnn tells ABC of "Borrowed." "I had to be so honest in order to write it ... I call myself 'pathetic' in the song because that's exactly the way I felt. It was just a pathetic situation. It's like, 'LeAnn, how did you get yourself into the situation?' Then there's this other side of me going, 'I love this man with all my heart and he loves me, and this is so complicated.'"

LeAnn Rimes' new album, Spitfire will be released in the spring.

To save face I would cancel the whole album if the rest of the songs are sung as poorly as this one. Why is Leann now singing like she has a mouthful of marbles? You can't understand a word she is saying. She yells rather than singing. Could be plastic facial surgeries, dental surgeries, abusing her body has affected her once great singing voice. Her manager needs to be brutally honest with her about this album. They MUST be losing money on this!!

This is just complete crap. Dean is credited ON the song as a writer! She wrote this YEARS ago with her songwriter and Dean for a friend. This girl lies like everyone else breathes.

Why is she saying that the lyrics were born out of lingering guilt over how her first marriage ended? She herself has acknowledged that this song was written for a friend several years ago, while she was still married to Dean. It is only for publicity reasons, in order to have former fans follow her again and buy her new album, that she is now claiming that it is an apology to Dean. She has never once displayed any remorse over the pain she caused him (or to Cibrian's ex-wife) - even in this article, it's all about her.

Well, it took a while to listen to words as her top was so low you couldn't miss something hanging out...then I shook my head and tried to listen to the words. Out side of the chorus, I didn't hear one word of the verses as it sound mumbled.

You forgot the next thing that JC said, hushed14, so I'll remind you - "Go and sin no more".
She also fails to understand the meaning of remorse and reparation.

Let he who is without sin cast the first stone. I like how nobody is bothering to listen to the actual single but is rather commenting on her personal behavior. Let's get back to the music instead of judging one another. The single is available on iTunes now and is beautiful, with backing vocals by Alison Krauss and Dan Tyminski.

Wow! I can't believe her sidekick DARRELL BROWN is retweeting this article about "a heartfelt apology to her ex!" How dare both of them! I hope Dean comments on this!!!! I am so sickened by this whole album and as a married woman and special education teacher, I will turn the radio if her songs come on. It is not the affair that sickens me, it is her constant disrespect for the mother of those children and her no boundaries whatsoever that is killing her career. I agree that she needs to delete her Twitter account and drop the lawsuit against Smiley.

It's a good thing her career is over, you can't understand a word she says. She needs to work on word pronunciation and her awful mumbling/running words together. Then she needs to apologize to her parents, her 2nd' husbands's first wife and mother of his children. Then she needs to apologize to the children whose lives she wrecked. Then she needs to apologize to her fans, apologize to the woman she called and is now suing, and delete her twitter account.

A "Heart Felt Apology to Her Ex", what a load of crap. She threw him under the bus with all the concern of a cop tossing spike-strips under the getaway car of a fleeing bank robber. Her next "Heart Felt Apology" will be to the wife of the family she destroyed and then to the mother of the handicapped children she is suing. Rimes will say and do anything for a buck or a headline.
