"I first heard Rodney on a demo tape in 1974 and knew immediately from his voice and lyrics he had the right stuff," Emmylou explains (quote via American Songwriter). "We met soon after, becoming bandmates in the Hot Band and starting a friendship that has continued and grown over the years. I always hoped we would someday do this record, and now I can finally cross it off my bucket list!"
Old Yellow Moon features some of country music's most prestigious players, including Vince Gill and former fellow Hot Band members Billy Payne and Stuart Duncan. Tunesmiths Hank DeVito, Roger Miller, Matraca Berg and Kris Kristofferson all contributed songs for the project.
This will be Rodney's second collaborative CD in less than a year. The award-winning songwriter released Kin: Songs by Mary Karr & Rodney Crowell in June, which paired him with the lauded poet and author for the 10-song album of originals.
Old Yellow Moon will be released on Feb. 26 via Nonesuch Records. Emmylou and Rodney plan to tour in the spring to promote the CD. See a complete track listing and pre-order the album here.
