Taylor Swift Cosmopolitan Interview: Singer Muses on Relationship Woes

Taylor Swift has made a successful career out of writing about love, but there's still plenty of things she doesn't understand about romance.

The songstress, who graces the cover of the January issue of Cosmopolitan UK, told the magazine of relationships, "[I don't know] how to make them last. I've never had a really long relationship, so I have no idea what that's like. Wish me luck for the future!"

Fingers crossed that all goes well for her rumored romance with One Direction's Harry Styles! Taylor has been linked to a number of men over the past few years, and even though Harry is four years her junior, the age gap doesn't seem to be a problem.

"I really don't have any rules about dating when it comes to height, age, career choice, anything like that," she says. "It doesn't matter. It's really more about strength of character. When it comes to age I've been all over the map!"

Despite experiencing plenty of heartbreak along the way, Taylor has learned a few things from her former flames.

"I don't know. I think that idea of love I hope for is that you learn a lesson and you don't have to learn it twice," she says. "But the song 'I Knew You Were Trouble' is about when I knowingly made the same mistake twice. I couldn't resist it -- there's that temptation to push yourself into a risky situation with someone who is going to hurt you, and that's what that song is about: not trusting your own instincts and ignoring all the red flags."

You know what they call a a girl of limited means who "dates" as many men in the same time period as she? Maybe she is doing research for her songs.

Listen to her first album, which was truly country, to A Place in This World. She lays it all down at sixteen years old and it's all come true. She's a girl on a mission, and she's learned to fly, higher and farther than anybody though possible. She's young, beautiful, brilliant (I'd like to see her adolescent I.Q. test) and incredibly rich and powerful, trying out a few boys. Six foot blondes always have and always will. I for one remember a few growing up, and made my children with the one who deigned to have them. They do the choosing and men do the bragging. It's always been that way and always will be. She was given total creative control at eighteen, which in her case was about three years late , and is the owner and CEO of her world, liberated and lovely, and yes, sampling what's out there from the best. Country purists say she betrayed them (rememberthe folky crowd bitchng when Bob Dylan went electric at the Monterey Pop Festival?)People should let her fly and quit bitching. She's the biggest in the world now, and millions of girls growing up aspire to be like her. Could be worse. For me, I love to see her success, how she avoided so many slings and arrow from the meanies and I've adored her since she was sixteen. Taylor is America's best export, and number one in 45 countries.

Taylor will be 23 in December. I don't know many 23 year olds who are truly ready for a long lasting relationship. Just because she has all this talent and fame doesn't mean she is much different from others her age, still dating casually and learning about themselves and others. I think she's smart and better off not being tied down in a long term relationship yet.

So she plays the field a bit. She is young, that is what young people should do. What, exactly, do you haters want, for her to marry her cousin at age 14?
