Golden Globe Best Original Song Nominees 2013 Include Two Country Superstars

Golden Globe Best Original Song Nominees 2013 Kevin Winter for ACM

A handful of Music City's finest representatives were among recipients of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association's Golden Globes nominations, which were revealed Thursday morning (Dec. 13) in Beverly Hills, Calif. Taylor Swift and Keith Urban will compete against one another in the Best Orignal Song category, with Taylor's "Safe and Sound" duet with duo Civil Wars (from "The Hunger Games") going up against Keith's "For You," which was featured in the film "Act of Valor."

"The most rewarding gift for me as a songwriter is knowing that the song has somehow made a connection," says Keith. "I've been fortunate and moved to hear first hand how it has impacted others' lives. For that, and for this nomination, I'm so very grateful and honored. To wake up to this news, as well as to Nic's two nominations, is absolutely beautiful. What a way to start the day!" (Wife Nicole Kidman is nominated for "The Paperboy" and "Hemingway & Gellhorn.")

Keith and Taylor's competition for Best Original Song includes "Not Running Anymore," by Jon Bon Jovi (from "Stand Up Guys"); "Skyfall," written by Adele and Paul Epworth (from "Skyfall"); and "Suddenly" (music by Claude-Michel Schonberg, lyrics by Schonberg and Alain Boublil) from "Les Miserables."

Taylor penned "Safe and Sound" with the Civil Wars (John Paul White and Joy Williams) and T Bone Burnett. T Bone also factors into another couple of nominees in the television categories. Connie Britton and Hayden Panettiere both earned acting nods for the ABC drama, "Nashville." Surprisingly, however, "Nashville," for which T Bone serves as executive music producer, was not among the nominees in the drama or musical/comedy series categories.

The 70th Annual Golden Globes will air Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013 at 8:00 PM ET on NBC. Two days later, nominations for the Academy Awards will be announced.
