The 73-year-old music icon is teaming up with Englewood Fire Department in Englewood, N.J., along with sponsors Mattel and Fisher-Price, to collect toys for children in Bergen County, N.J., which is one of the areas most affected by the hurricane. In addition to the gifts, the generous singer is also offering to match cash donations, to ensure each child has a merry Christmas.
"It's really tragic to see, as an outsider, all the destruction that has taken place -- the lives, the houses and the businesses that have all been lost," Kenny shares on his website. "What really breaks my heart, though, is to think of all the kids in the community without toys this Christmas. That should never happen. I realized there was something I could do about that when I come to perform in Englewood. My thought is to match all donations up to $10,000 that the audience is willing to contribute in the hope that we might raise at least $20,000 to buy toys for some of the kids in the community. We would also welcome anyone who comes out to our show to bring a new toy to donate to help make this Christmas a little brighter for many children."
Kenny will perform in Englewood on Dec. 19, as part of his 31st annual Christmas & Hits tour with Billy Dean. Toys and monetary donations will be accepted at the concert's venue, the Bergen Performing Arts Center, every day through Dec. 19. To find out how you can donate, call (201) 816-8160, extension 16.
Kenny will continue his Christmas tour with a show tonight (Dec. 13) in Detroit, Mich. See his remaining concert dates here.
