Charlie Daniels Surgery Repairs Rotator Cuff

Charlie Daniels underwent surgery this morning (Dec. 17). The legendary singer alerted fans of the scheduled procedure via Twitter Sunday, writing, "I'm having rotator cuff repair in the morning and have to be there at early 30 probably won't make the whole game, back on twitter Tue I hope."

Fans didn't have to wait that long for an update, though, with the following message posted on his website today: "Just wanted to let everybody know that Charlie had surgery this morning to fix a shredded rotator cuff. The surgery was successful, he is resting at home and is doing very well. He won't be playing the fiddle or guitar for a while, but he will be back to normal in 2 to 6 weeks, and will not miss any shows scheduled for 2013. Thank you for all the prayers and well wishes!"

This is the 76-year-old's second medical procedure this year. In April, he underwent Smart Eye Surgery, a new procedure to restore eye sight.

"I'm going to get started out here and be able to see without glasses for the first time in 68 years," he told Nashville TV station WKRN. "I'm just looking forward to not having to reach up and pat around the table for glasses when I get up in the morning to see where I'm going."

The first 2013 tour date listed on Charlie's website is scheduled for March 5 in Nashville. See a list of shows here.

I hope he does well. It took me almost 3 months to get back to work after a rotator cuff repair. It took a year to get full range of motion back. It's not an easy surgery.

Get well soon, Charlie. Your kind of talent is rare. In a world full of superflous junk often thinly disguised as music, you shine.

I just gotta tell you, I'm glad it's you and not me. I had it done a little over a year ago and it's the most painful thing I've ever been through. Worst thing was the anesthesiologist couldn't find the nerve to block the pain....took her 2 hours of sticking me 35 times. Then she decided to move over a couple inches and there it was....instant relief for 14 glorious hours. Go easy on that shoulder and don't be moving it so fast when you're playing the fiddle. Let it heal good before you try anything crazy. Wishing you a speedy recovery. At least I know you can read my message now. lol Happy Holidays!

I’m glad to hear Charlie’s doing well. Charlie and the rest of my
Country Cousins are around my age (I’m in my 80th Year) and are the real
Country/Western Singers and banjo players.
I call them my Country Cousins, because I, a Big City boy, have been
singing country songs since about six years of age.
Could even Yodel up until about eleven years, when my mother
made me stop making that noise. Mom loved yodeling, just couldn’t stand me
doing it all the time. Tried after I was an adult but lost it, probably everyone is
happy for that. Still sing -- Wish you good health Charlie, with Love
