Natalie Maines Solo Album Title, Release Date Revealed

Robyn Beck, AFP

Dixie Chicks lead singer Natalie Maines has completed her first solo album. The singer-songwriter tweeted the news earlier this month, writing, "Happy Natalie Maines Finished Her Album Day everybody!" The project, which is titled Mother, is expected out on May 7, 2013.

Earlier this year, the Texas native confirmed via the same social networking site that the new album is rock, rather than country. Several outlets are also reporting that Ben Harper is producing the project. The record will mark Natalie's first full length offering since the 2006 Dixie Chicks album, Taking the Long Way.

It's likely that Mother takes its name from the Pink Floyd tune, which the mother of two performed with Ben Harper at several of his tour dates over the summer. Natalie has already recorded the song for the West of Memphis: Voices of Justice soundtrack, which accompanies the documentary about the men convicted of what has become known as the West Memphis Three murders.

The new project doesn't mean that Natalie won't be performing with Dixie Chicks, though. It was just announced that the trio will replace Lady Antebellum in the lineup for the 2013 Craven Country Jamboree (Hillary Scott's pregnancy has caused Lady A to cancel). The festival takes place July 11-14 in Craven, Canada, with the Chicks headlining on July 13. Get more information here.

She's also featured on the soundtrack for West Of Memphis! It's a film about the Memphis Three - Eddie Vedder and Henry Rollins are also on the album. http://bit.ly/WHVOjd

Dixie Chicks were the best female group in the history of country music. Too bad Natalie spoke the truth. The truth hurts. Many country fans can't handle the truth or are merely lemmings. Country's loss. The group was already wealthy. So many small minded people always looking for something or someone to hate.

I love it!!! If celebrities CHOOSE to use their popularity to espouse their political opinion, then be prepared to reap or suffer the consequences. In the Dixie Chicks case...suffer. I stopped listening to them the very day I heard them bad mouth our President on foreign soil. You keep our laundry in our "house"! Now she's bad mouthing country music fans, she still hasn't learned. Natalie, AMERICANS STOPPED LISTENING TO YOU...NOT JUST COUNTRY FANS!!! These same Americans will not listen to your rock music either! The BEST of musicians these days time their careers with egg timers...let alone ones like you with "histories". Retire, raise your kids, and collect the royalties of your past. That is your future in AMERICA!

Pure BS. They sold more records after this fiasco. Bush was a traitor to our country and to all americans. I am proud of Natalie and I bet her album will go platinum. You cannot ask her to keep our dirty laundry in America when Bush and Cheney were out murdering all those poor people, including our own, in other countries. Bush made the dirty laundry and now we reep the benefits!

Natalie is a strong woman. I'm sure any negative comments aren't gonna affect her becasue she has heard them all.

...only place Natalie can get a gig is Canada....Dixie Chicks is now an adverb.

I like the other two in the Chicks. This one looks like she has hygiene issues.
