Luke Bryan Rescues Horse in Harpeth River

Luke Bryan was a real country hero last week, when he helped save a horse named Misty in Franklin, Tenn., just south of Nashville. The 15-year-old Appaloosa had wandered too far from its home, and fell 15 feet into the Harpeth River, Nashville television station WSMV reports. Luckily, the "Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye" singer and a friend were boating on the river and spotted the animal, which only had its head sticking out of the water. Luke, who lives in the area, alerted emergency workers.

"It was a blessing," the horse's owner, Janet McCormick, told the station. "If they hadn't been going down the river in the boat, I wouldn't have known that she'd fallen in ... It was very upsetting. Very, very stressful."

A team of 12 people, including county's emergency management and rescue squad, worked tirelessly to pull the horse from the water. According to Williamson County Animal Control's Dough Brightwell, workers had to "halter her, and with some straps and a tractor and a lot of manpower [got] her pulled out of the mud and back on the shore."

Misty has a limp, but McCormick has been told that she will make a full recovery.

"You can't thank anybody enough for taking an interest and being so helpful and genuine," McCormick said. "It's a blessing to have good neighbors."

Luke Bryan seems NORMAL, he did what would be considered
decent. Our society on the other hand seems warped, it has
degraded so far that when someone does the decent thing,
we try to make them a HERO for us to worship.
Realty check people someone who would just let the animal
drown would be a worthless dirtbag.

I'm thrilled that he made the phone call he did. Too many people would have ignored it and not cared. He did the right thing! But why are we ignoring the people who physically rescued the animal? His phone call wouldn't have meant much if nobody would have been there to answer it!

While I'm glad the horse is OK and I applaud Luke Bryan for "alerting emergency officials," he didn't actually rescue the horse as the article's title would suggest.

In response to auctiosurplus: Seeing as nowadays we see many negative news about people not doing anything when an animal or person is in dire need of help & that includes making a simple phone call, i believe Luke Wilson is as much a hero as those brave & dedicated men who actually rescued the horse from the water. To put it into perspective, say you were in those waters all by yourself, alone; all of a sudden your foot got caught between rocks or underwater branches & the water level was rising & your starting to feel very worried & in a couple of minutes panicky. Suddenly you see a person on a boat making a phone call & in the next 15 min. your carried out of the water. Who was your first hero?

God bless Luke. Other country stars have not been so compassionate. Blake Shelton bragged on Twitter about running over a box turtle, and Troy Genttry of Montgomery Gentry ruined his reputation with a video he made. See it at http://blogs.citypages.com/blotter/2010/10/troy_gentry_kil.php

He didn't "rescue a horse from a river" as the title suggested. He only made the only made a phone call. Big deal. Sounds like he didn't try to do anything else. Lousy headline.
