Beyoncé Lip Sync Accusations: LeAnn Rimes, Miranda Lambert Weigh In on Inauguration Controversy

Beyonce Lip Sync AccusationsChicago Tribune

To lip sync or not to lip sync is the question on a lot of minds, following Beyoncé's performance of the "Star Spangled Banner" at President Obama's second inauguration. Whether the superstar did or didn't, country stars are weighing in on the practice that has been debated for years.

LeAnn Rimes appeared on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" Tuesday (Jan. 22), even though she had lost her voice and had to cancel her own performance that night. After insisting that she's never lip synced the national anthem, LeAnn was asked if she was against other singers faking it.

"Usually, but I'm actually taking up for her on this one," LeAnn answered. "There are times when people will ask you to do it, and they will not let you [perform] unless you do it because they want control of what happens. I don't like to lip sync, but sometimes there are those moments."

However, Miranda Lambert has a much simpler defense. "I don't think it matters," the "Mama's Broken Heart' singer told Yahoo. "It's Beyoncé, she can do whatever the hell she wants!"

Miranda is so unaffected by the controversy that she names the pop singer among her dream collaborators, along with another inauguration performer. "I would love to sing with Kelly Clarkson if I ever get the guts -- she's amazing," says the reigning CMA Female Vocalist of the Year. "I sang with her onstage in Colorado, and I just wanted to crawl in a hole. I'm also a huge fan of Beyoncé and Pink. I saw Kelly's Twitter and she was hanging out with Beyoncé at [the inauguration]. I was like, 'Really? My two favorite girls?'"

Miranda Lambert once again shows why today's country music is so screwed up.A true country music artist dream should be to sing a song with two country music ICONS instead of two bubble gum pop singers. Her and her husband is just trying to hang with more Hollywood liberals.

As far as the stripper woman who's married to a racist, misoganist, piece of crud, lip syncing is wrong,it is a FRAUD.If you can't sing our Anthem for ANY reason, get off the stage and let someone who CAN.

Miranda is not the first person in country to wish that they could collaborate with a non country act. I believe that Reba once said that she would give anything to collaborate with Bette Midler who is not country either.

God bless you and all three ladies always!!!

In my opinion if a person is in an environment that is hard to sing in, like outside on a very windy day for example, then I understand if they choose to lip sing. Other than that to me a performance should be live.

God bless you always!!!

P.S. If you are too sick to give a live performance, someone else should be in the performance slot instead.

it's just Cathy

Why is this a big deal? My understanding was it is up to them if they want to sing live or they want to use a pre recorded version. Since that's the rule what exactly is the problem?

If you are a performer and you are paid to sing, then you should do it live. There are alot of singers who lip sync a majority of their performances because they cannot actually sing. At the very least we know Beyonce has talent. She just used poor judgement.

Let's talk about the Lip-synch comments: Are you a performing artist (a professional performer), one whom get paid for their performance(s)? If not, here is the situation. If you are scheduled to perform for a professional gig, you need to have rehearsal time with the performing band and the performing band with the performing artist, basically to have a successful professional performance. This is why you rehearse, you need to get the feel of the band and vice-versa and acquire the correct timing and syncronization, one bad timing performance can ruin your fans respect for their artist, we owe our fans that much credibility and respect as professional entertainers, respectfully, even if the rehearsal is just one run(take). No true professional artist wants to lip-synch, but, if you can't rehearse, in my opinion, it is best to lip-synch, if you can't get out of the performance contract. At least the artist will have given the audience a performance that is tight and professional in style, this is why the audience is their as fans, to see their artist entertain them in a professional way. Taking nothing away from any artist, I personnally have never had to lip-synch during a live performance in my professional career, but, if I (we, the group) had not rehearsed before any performance with or without the band, we either would have not performed or if given the choice to lip-synch, that decision to lip-synch the performance would have been better than to appear in performance without rehearsal, in my opinion. Thanks, for listening and I hope that you may now understand that some contravercies may have good justification. I've seen Beyonce' and Destiny Child live and I can truthfully tell you that Mrs. Beyonce' Knowles Carter is a true Diva and a geat professional singing artist, composer,,,, choreographer, writer and director. Hats off to you Mrs. Carter and all of the performers at the POTUS 2013 Inauguration. One of the best I've seen and witnessed, congratulations Mr. President. From a true American and Vietnam Veteran, thanks God for this great Nation of ours and the nations of the world.

You make a lot of sense, however, I disagree, I would rather hear my favorite performers have a bad performance then a fake lip syncing episode. Once i find out they lip sync, I loose respect for them. From on vet to another God Bless your service!!

You know if you are asked to preform at an inauguration, maybe a once in a lifetime event. SING, do your friggn job or defer to a singer that WILL sing.

Where was Jackie Evancho. She never fakes anything. She is amazing and even knows all the words to our National Anthem and performs it with passion, is on key and with style in the Land of the Free...and...those who are not black enough to sing for the President. If this doesn't matter to anyone, what should matter? Make a list and post it..for the Home of the Brave - folks who served to keep it that way.
