Randy Travis Assault Case Ends in Plea Deal

Randy Travis assault caseNBC Universal

Randy Travis has made a big step in putting his legal woes behind him. The country music legend has reached a plea deal in his misdemeanor assault charges, which came last summer after an argument with his fiancé's estranged husband, Ritchie Beougher, in a church parking lot in Texas.

The 53-year-old singer will receive a 90-day deferred sentence, as the result of his plea of either guilty or no contest. His plea was unexpected, as the troubled singer recently filed a lawsuit against Beougher, alleging that the incident was part of Beougher's larger plan to bring physical harm to him.

If he successfully completes his probation, Travis will likely avoid jail time for this incident, but he still faces more charges from alcohol-fueled antics last year. He was first arrested in February for public intoxication, after police found him in a parked car with an open bottle of wine. Then in August, only a few weeks before the church altercation, Travis was arrested again, after he was found lying naked in a road. He had crashed his car but luckily had not injured anyone. Upon his arrest, he allegedly threatened a police officer, and was charged with public intoxication and retaliation against law enforcement officials.

Travis will still have to face a judge stemming from his February arrest, after recent blood alcohol test results show the Grand Ole Opry member had a blood alcohol level greater than 0.15. The Class A misdemeanor is punishable by up to two years in jail and a $4,000 fine.

Travis' attorney, Larry Friedman, tells CBS News that his client "expects a trouble free 2013 devoted to his very supportive fans and friends." So far, the country star appears to be on the right track. Not only has he quit drinking, but he is also focused on improving his physical health by maintaining a healthy diet and exercising on a regular basis.

Travis has added several new shows to his tour schedule, including three concerts at Nashville's famed Schermerhorn Symphony Center. See a list of all of his upcoming gigs here.

I think this is all a mans way of going through a break up with his wife and he just went through a bad time in his life and handled it badly. Maybe he is over it now and ready to move on and turn things around. After all he is a Star and he deserves a chance to start over.He is also a good actor and he may even be in some more movies.

It is sad that our school system does not offer any education on how the mind works ....... There are 100 plus, different types of OLIC's ..... that word makes a lot of people mad ..... but basically all an OLIC is, is someone that selects something (work, spend money, alcohol, drugs, etc.) to do in excess, to get totally away from REALITY, because they can not deal with REALITY. It makes no difference what the subject is....If something occurs we do not like we either need to CHANGE it or we have to ACCEPT IT and FORGET it.... There are basically only (2) things we can change .... (1) We can change our Actions EX: I can go outside or stay in the house ... (2) We can change our REACTION to the 1,000 + things that occur in our lives that we wished had not happened. Too many people spend their lives dwelling on ISSUES running around in a circle their entire life...... That is why there are so many OLIC's today ..... but most people do not think they are.......

I hope all goes well for Randy. I love his singing. Sometimes things just go wrong, but I know he can make them right. It's hard to walk away from the bad stuff when you get down---but just do it!!! Maybe, some day he will make it to Salt Lake City, UT so I can see him in person. I would love that. He is a good man & darn good looking too!!!!! See ya on the awards shows soon!!!!!!
