The 53-year-old singer will receive a 90-day deferred sentence, as the result of his plea of either guilty or no contest. His plea was unexpected, as the troubled singer recently filed a lawsuit against Beougher, alleging that the incident was part of Beougher's larger plan to bring physical harm to him.
If he successfully completes his probation, Travis will likely avoid jail time for this incident, but he still faces more charges from alcohol-fueled antics last year. He was first arrested in February for public intoxication, after police found him in a parked car with an open bottle of wine. Then in August, only a few weeks before the church altercation, Travis was arrested again, after he was found lying naked in a road. He had crashed his car but luckily had not injured anyone. Upon his arrest, he allegedly threatened a police officer, and was charged with public intoxication and retaliation against law enforcement officials.
Travis will still have to face a judge stemming from his February arrest, after recent blood alcohol test results show the Grand Ole Opry member had a blood alcohol level greater than 0.15. The Class A misdemeanor is punishable by up to two years in jail and a $4,000 fine.
Travis' attorney, Larry Friedman, tells CBS News that his client "expects a trouble free 2013 devoted to his very supportive fans and friends." So far, the country star appears to be on the right track. Not only has he quit drinking, but he is also focused on improving his physical health by maintaining a healthy diet and exercising on a regular basis.
Travis has added several new shows to his tour schedule, including three concerts at Nashville's famed Schermerhorn Symphony Center. See a list of all of his upcoming gigs here.
