"I had this idea ... If the car did the killing -- a la 'Christine,' the Stephen King book -- I just thought that would be a cool little twist to the story," Carrie explains in the behind-the-scenes video below, filmed on the "Two Black Cadillacs" set. "So I did reach out to ask if he might give his blessing, and I told him, 'I would never want to do this if you didn't sign off on it first.'"
The 29-year-old singer admits that even before she had the idea for the video, she knew the ominous song would be a deviation from what her fans have come to expect.
"Obviously people know it's not my life. I try not to overthink it," Carrie tells The Boot of the track, which she co-wrote with Josh Kear and Hillary Lindsey. "If I had a whole album full of songs like that, it would be like, 'What is she trying to say here?'"
Carrie will kick off the 2013 leg of her Blown Away tour on Feb. 13 in Colorado Springs, Co., with Hunter Hayes serving as her opening act. See a complete list of her upcoming shows here.
