Mindy McCready, 'Today' Show Interview: Singer Responds to Murder Accusations

Mindy McCready appeared on NBC's "Today" show this morning (Jan. 29) to address suspicions that she killed her boyfriend, David Wilson. The 34-year-old music producer, father to McCready's youngest son, died of what was initially reported to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound on Jan. 13. While the 37-year-old singer is not a suspect -- none have been named -- the Cleburne County Sheriff's office is running additional forensic tests to determine whether or not Wilson committed suicide. McCready calls the Sheriff's motives a "witch hunt." (Watch the interview below.)

NBC reporter Andrea Canning spoke with the mother of two at her home in Arkansas and asked her point blank if she killed her "soulmate" and the father of her 9-month-old baby. "Oh, my God, no. Oh, my God, no," she answered. "He was my life. We were each others' life."

Additionally, the "Ten Thousand Angels" singer recalled finding her boyfriend, who did not immediately die from his injury, on the couple's front porch. "I just started screaming, calling 911," she said. "I lay down next to him and pleaded with him not to die ... He responded ... with sounds."

McCready did admit to having fought with David the night of his death, however she was adamant that it had nothing to do with rumors he was about to leave her for another woman. "David was not having an affair," she said. "That is absolutely, totally untrue."

Another cause of doubt about McCready's recollection of events came from the fact that the bullet was not immediately found by investigators until the next day. "I didn't find it, the dog did," she explains. "It was in the dog's mouth. I mean, that's a horrific things to say, but it was in the dog's mouth."

Canning asked McCready whether she believed Wilson killed himself or was murdered. Her response: "I don't know."

Canning will continue to follow the story for NBC's "Dateline."

I realize reporters are just trying to get the story but the interviewer was little cold. Not at all warm. Terrible interview! . Katie Curic would have done much better. That story may have been the catalyst to her suicide. They didn't portray Mindy in a very good light. Shameful NBC. Rest in peace Mindy. Only God can judge you sweetheart.

Mindy McCready has had a long history of alcohol and drug abuse. Whoever released her from the latest rehab made a big mistake. She has been crying out for help for many years. Now she leaves 2 young children that are orphans. She has never been honest about her addiction problems and the fact that her boyfriend died from the same problems indicates that the children should have been taken away from them and they both should have been committed to long term treatment facilities.

Rebecca Prince who reported this clearly , you are and inexperienced reporter you have a smile on your face and no remorse feeling on this report these are human beings and people who lost thier husband and children who lost thier father shame on this network for letting this announcer sound like candy was being was being passed out at the local fair practice in front of the mirror Rebecca you need work .

I have to say that I truly love her voice and music, but seriously..... this does not look good for her. This has not yet been ruled a suicide and she even admitted she was not sure that it was.

If she had not been in so much trouble and had so much drama in her life I do think that more folks would be giving her the benefit of doubt.

Sex, Drugs and Rock and Roll seems to say it all. If she had not been arrested for drugs and DUI (once or was it twice?) then there was that fraud thing a few years back (I think there was no evidence, but it hit the news) then there violation of probation, the two jail terms and then a very public rehab. Oh and I forgot about her dirty sex tape, the accusations of one of her co-mates from Rehab (the stolen hard drive, forget her name) then the cheating with the married baseball player, etc...... I know that the list goes on. Oh yeah.... the assault on her mother, the multiple suicide attempts, the kidnapping of her own child. I get exhausted just trying to think of some of the stories out there, whether it be truth or rumor.

The dog had the bullet in its mouth??? Come on???

Again - I must admit I am a huge fan and hope that the truth comes out and "somehow" she had nothing to do with it and keeps on the straight and narrow and has a great come back, salvages that relationship with her mother and finds a way to live happily ever after.

She has no regard for her own life, since trying to commit suicide twice. So why would she have regard for anyone else's??

ulldnn, if Mindy didn't want to be asked these question, she shouldn't have done the interview. This is on her,not the media. Obviously, she wanted to be asked these questions. And Len, I agree with you, she is using the media to build her defense. But why do you want her to shut up? If she has nothing to hide and wasn't involved, she can talk all she wants. And why do you have a problem with law enforcement listening to her spew her crapola? They have a case to solve. A man is dead. Don't you think he's more important than Mindy keeping her defense a secret? and for the record, Mindy is almost 40 yrs old, so she's no girl, and David was a boyfriend, not a husband.
