Tim McGraw, 'Ellen' Interview: Singer Goes Commando & Talks Sobriety

Why is Ellen DeGeneres giving Tim McGraw underwear? It could be because he wasn't wearing any during his Feb. 5 appearance on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show." (Watch a clip below.) Ellen was pleased to see that the country superstar sported her signature boxers in a candid photo (above) that a fan had sent her, but when she asked if he had them on for the show, Tim answered with a hesitant, "Uh, no."

"These pants are too tight to have underwear on," the "One of Those Nights" singer answered with a laugh, sending the crowd into an uproar. "Now I'm really embarrassing my daughters."

Despite his lack of undergarments for the appearance, the country icon did have a lot to say about the "Ellen" undies. "Those things are great. I've been here nine times, [but] that's the only pair that I have. But I just noticed in my dressing room that I have a new pair now."

To rectify the situation even further, Ellen presented Tim with a basket of assorted briefs. "I will wear them with pride and honor," he said with a smile.

Tim brought up his daughters -- Gracie, 15, Maggie, 14, and Audrey, 11 -- again when discussing the current People cover story about his sobriety.

"My girls are getting older and I certainly wanted to have some good solid ground to stand on when I started to talk to them about this situation," he mentioned after explaining that there was no one moment that made him decided to quit drinking five years ago. "My life has been a series of events that told me I shouldn't drink anymore. I felt like it was time to grow up a little bit. I'm not a middle of the road kind of guy. I'm usually all the way, one way or all the way the other. And when I decided I was drinking, I drank."

He alluded that his marriage to Faith Hill had also been a factor. "When you get to a point where you feel it's affecting you adversely, and it's affecting your relationships adversely, then it's time to make a change."

He got sober and realized his bud Kenny Chesney had been hitting on him all these years. They're a couple now.

At our local country mega-concerts the stars push partying and booze. Thousands get totally drunk and then DRIVE HOME. The concert venues sell oceans of alcohol, even to people visibly drunk and then LET THEM DRIVE HOME. If I were a lawyer I think I could make a case that my client who killed some one after a concert while drunk driving was encouraged to drink to excess by the concert star and the concert venue. Let's face it, in America the idea of personal responsibility is long dead. What I am saying here is that ALMOST every country music star I have seen has fostered bad behavior at the concerts and afterwards.

They don't put a gun to their heads and say drink it. Every establishment that serves alcohol has a lot of it. No one says you have to drink, be smart and if that client killed someone from his or her drinking they should never have gotten behind the wheel. And if they killed an innocent person they should pay the price for getting behind that wheel knowing they were to drunk to drive. Just say enough is enough or don't drink at all they make the choice!!!!
