"We've wanted to do another Soul2Soul tour, we haven't done one in a long time," Tim admits to The Boot. "That's why we've done the Vegas thing, because there was a limited amount of shows and we didn't have to be gone from home but a couple nights out of the month. The toughest thing about putting a whole tour together is, it's not just about me flying in and out, it's about both of us flying in and out, the kids flying in and out ... The logistics are just crazy, especially when you have a couple of teenage daughters who have a busier social calendar than you do. Their schedule is way more complicated than ours!"
The parents to Gracie (15), Maggie (14) and Audrey (11) will finish their run at the Venetian on April 27. Tim then has just a four-day break before kicking off his Two Lanes of Freedom tour, also featuring Brantley Gilbert and Love and Theft. The touring troubadour says he is very hands-on when it comes to crafting all aspects of his upcoming live shows, from the set-list to the lighting.
"More than anything, I love stage design and coming up with all these ideas about what you're going to do with the stage and the lights," he says. "I always want it to sound really good, that's first and foremost, but I want all these great things on stage because it makes us feel like rock stars. [laughs] But you have to go in and have this sort of silent agreement with the audience that you're going to give in to this conducive environment, and you're going to let this whole thing sort of take over and you're just going to be a part of it. Those are the nights where I feel fantastic."
The Two Lanes of Freedom tour kicks off May 2 in Birmingham, Ala., hitting 30 cities before wrapping July 27 in Virginia Beach, Va. See a full list of cities and dates on the trek here, and read our full interview with Tim here.
