David Allan Coe Hospitalized Following Collision With Tractor-Trailer

David Allan Coe was hospitalized this morning (March 19) following a car accident in Ocala, Fla., reports ABC Action News. While rescue crews did have to use extrication equipment to remove the 73-year-old from his 2011 Chevrolet Suburban, he was treated for "non-life threatening conditions."

According to the Ocala Police Department, the incident occurred this morning around 1:30 AM, when Coe failed to stop at a red light on State Road 40. The passenger side of "The Ride" singer's vehicle was then hit by a 1996 Peterbilt tractor-trailer semi, sending the Suburban into a parking lot at a corner of the intersection.

In addition, the semi overturned and slid into a traffic control box and light pole, spilling diesel fuel and fresh produce. The driver, Robert Johnson, and his passenger, Lisa Mead, were both treated for minor injuries.

The country legend was on his way from Tampa to a home in Ormond Beach, Fla., and the preliminary investigation showed that he was at fault. He received a citation for violation of a traffic control device.

First and foremost I hope everyone involved will be physically alright. I think It would be a tragedy If the trucker could not find work because of a accident that was not his fault. In my opinon, I don't think DAC thought he had a right to run a red light as I have read In some of the posts, things happen sometimes and unfortunately there are victims, could it have been avoided, yes it could have. I'm a DAC fan, seen him 3 times in concert, but not in awhile. If he keeps running red lights may not be able to see him again.

So they say he ran a RED LIGHT?????? This is what happens when the ATS Co in Fl make the yellow lights very short but have the green lights coming right at you! Wake up Florida! The only reason this is reported is because it\'s a Country Star. It is happening all the time now. If our state is so greedy lifes will be lost. It\'s not always the driver, it;\'s the the ATS making the yellow lights timing less than legal!

" THe Country Legend?" Perfect example of a legend in his own mind. Used to laugh about "WIllie and Waylon and Me" KInd of like the big three of physics, ALbert, Enrico and Purnell.

The poor driver of the truck is no out of a job because of another idiot driver ran a red light.....I don't care who he thinks he is, he was in the wrong, he will still have a job to make money at. But the truck driver will not only lose his job, but he will also find it hard to find another company willing to hire him due to this accident that was not his fault.

Damn straight... lady ran a red light texting and hit me broad side. My tractor was not only my job, it was also my house! Feb 29 of last year and still not able to work. And, if I could... no truck (was an owner-operator), so no truck no job. And, tell me a company that would hire me! To most companies, a DOT reportable accident is an automatic no thank you, regardless of who was at fault.

Accidents and bad stuff happens in life everyday that is not always our own fault..They are both alive and perhaps their lives will not be as bad as you have imagined.

Ok, sure David Allen Coe may not be everybody's cup of tea, but I grew up listening to his music and the vast number of absolutely racists, sexist, and what ever other ists he has been known as being he does have talent and has many great country music songs and albums. I guess I always tried to think of his more controversial music as parody/comedy type music, despite knowing full well just how bad some of them really are. I'm not ashamed to admit I like and have listened to his music, but I wouldn't go as far as ever playing his albums within earshot of those who would obviously be greatly offended.
