Jason Aldean is getting ready for what might be one of the biggest nights of his life, or at least his career. The 'Tattoos on This Town' singer will head to Los Angeles on Sunday (Feb. 12) for the Grammy Awards, where he'll perform his hit 'Don't You Wanna Stay' with Kelly Clarkson. He's also nominated for three trophies and warns that a win may affect how well he travels the next day!

"I've got somewhat of an early flight the next morning, so I may have to keep my celebrating in check until I get back home," he acknowledges (quote via Country Weekly). "That's easier said than done, though. I imagine if we do happen to win one, it will be a very long day the next day for me flying home. [I'll] be finding the little barf bag in the console in front of my seat."

The Georgia native admits he's also eager for the Grammys for reasons that have nothing to do with winning an award. "I'm a Foo Fighters fan and they are performing," notes the 34-year-old. "Seeing artists like that that I haven't seen perform live before to me is part of the coolness of being able to go to some of that stuff. I'm just looking forward to that."

Still, the entertainer says that taking home a coveted trophy would be a career milestone. "For an artist, anybody in the music business, I don't know that it gets any bigger than that for us," Jason acknowledges. "I think every artist wants to have that 'Grammy award winner' tag in front of their name."

Jason, who is in the running for Best Country Album, Best Country Solo Performance and Best Country Duo/Group Performance, already knows what he'll do if he does take home a Grammy.

"[I'd] probably [hang it] around my neck," he jokes. "I just want to do like everybody else does, and put it up to their ear ... I'll probably sleep with it and everything."

Jason will follow up his big night in Los Angeles with shows next week in Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa, as part of his My Kinda Party tour, which includes Luke Bryan and Lauren Alaina as opening acts. Keep track of tour schedule here.

10. Carrie Underwood, 2007 Grammy Awards

Wins: Best New Artist (all-genre) and Country Female Performance

The Competition: Carrie may have been coming off of her 2005 'American Idol' win, but that didn't mean she was shoo-in for either of these honors. James Blunt's double-platinum-selling 'You're Beautiful' landed him the Best New Artist nod, while Chris Brown's two platinum singles 'Run It' and 'Yo (Excuse Me Miss),' Imogen Heap's film-friendly 'Speak for Yourself' and Corinne Bailey Rae's chart-topping debut album garnered their respective nominations. In the country category, the Oklahoma native's 'Jesus, Take the Wheel' faced songs from Martina McBride and LeAnn Rimes, who come in third and sixth, respectively, for the most nominations in the category. Not only did Carrie beat the odds, she came back and took the Country Female Performance category the next two years with 'Before He Cheats' and 'Last Name.'

9. Shelby Lynne, 2001 Grammy Awards

Win: Best New Artist (all-genre)

The Competition: "Thirteen years and six albums to get here," Shelby noted during her acceptance speech for Best New Artist. By the year 2000, the term 'new' didn't necessarily apply to the singer-songwriter. She had released her first album, 'Sunrise,' on Epic Records in 1989, and followed it with five more before the millennium, the last being 'I Am Shelby Lynne.' On the other hand, her fellow nominees were all straight out the gate and had either topped their respective charts -- Brad Paisley with 'He Didn't Have to Be' and Papa Roach with 'Last Resort' -- or had released multi-platinum albums, in the case of Jill Scott and Sisqó. Shelby took the trophy by being "an individual," as she acknowledged in her speech, and has gone on to release seven more albums since.

Wins: Best New Artist (all-genre) and Female Country Performance

The Competition: To be 14 years old and have released an album is a triumph, but to be that age and win a Grammy was unprecedented. LeAnn became the youngest Grammy winner -- a record that still holds -- when she beat out Garbage, Jewel, No Doubt and the Tony Rich Project for Best New Artist. In the country category, the teenager faced the most-awarded female Grammy winner of all time, Alison Krauss, as well as Mary Chapin Carpenter, whose four wins in the category tied her for the most with Emmylou Harris. And let's not forget Deana Carter, whose 'Strawberry Wine' dominated the airwaves alongside Trisha Yearwood's 'Believe Me Baby (I Lied).'

7. Alison Krauss & Robert Plant, 2009 Grammy Awards

Wins: Record & Album (all-genre), Pop Collaboration, Country Collaboration and Folk/Americana Album

The Competition: Take the lead singer of Led Zeppelin and a bluegrass darling, and what do you get? 'Raising Sand,' an album that defied genre lines. The project's 'Please Read the Letter,' which never cracked Billboard's Top 100 tunes, went on to eclipse chart-toppers including Coldplay's 'Viva la Vida,' Leona Lewis' 'Bleeding Love' and M.I.A.'s 'Paper Planes.' The pair's platinum-selling album faced competition in the all-genre Album of the Year category from the triple-platinum 'Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends' from Coldplay and 'Tha Carter III' from Lil Wayne. It also scored a Folk/Americana Album win, while producing two songs that took away Pop ('Rich Woman') and Country ('Killing the Blues') Collaboration trophies.

6. Glen Campbell, 1969 Grammy Awards

Win: Best Album (all-genre)

The Competition: To give you some perspective, in 1967 this award went to the Beatles for a little album called 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.' The following year, the foursome were back in the running with their follow-up, 'Magical Mystery Tour.' Simon & Garfunkel were also vying for Best Album with the No. 1, 'Bookends,' which includes the most recognizable hit from their multi-decade career, 'Mrs. Robinson.' Rounding out the competition were José Feliciano -- who made 'Feliz Navidad' a holiday tradition -- and actor-turned-singer Richard Harris -- yes, the first Dumbledore -- with his debut. Granted, Glen was was well on his way to superstardom, co-starring with John Wayne in 'True Grit' and hosting his own 'Goodtime Hour' on CBS-TV, but that didn't make it any less surprising when 'By the Time I Get to Phoenix,' a No. 1 country album, surpassed what has since become some of most popular music of the 20th century.

5. Taylor Swift, 2010 Grammy Awards

Wins: Album (all-genre), and Female Country Performance, Country Song and Country Album

The Competition: When the nominations for the 2010 ceremony were announced, Taylor was named an astonishing eight times, second only to Beyoncé. The then 20-year-old's sophomore release, 'Fearless,' took on the biggest stars of the year, Beyoncé's 'I Am ... Sasha Fierce,' the Black Eyed Peas' 'The E.N.D.,' Lady Gaga's 'The Fame' and the Dave Matthews Band's 'Big Whiskey and the Groogrux King.' Cementing her career in country, the singer-songwriter's 'White Horse,' which she co-penned, topped Jamey Johnson's critically-acclaimed 'High Cost of Living' as well as Billy Currington's wildly popular 'People Are Crazy.' In the Female Country Performance category, she ended Carrie Underwood's three-year winning streak, and in Country Album she surpassed Keith Urban's 'Defying Gravity' and the Zac Brown Band's celebrated debut 'The Foundation.'

4. Bobbie Gentry, 1968 Grammy Awards

Wins: Best New Artist and Female Vocal Performance (all-genre), and Contemporary Female Solo Vocal Performance

The Competition: On the strength of their mega-hits, 'Somebody to Love' and 'White Rabbit,' 1967 was the year of Jefferson Airplane, also New Artist contenders. When the envelope was opened and Bobbie's name was called, the South rose again, besting San Francisco's Summer of Love. The Mississippi native's 'Ode to Billie Joe' even prevailed over Record and Song of the Year winners 5th Dimension's 'Up, Up and Away.' Remembered as one of the first female country singers to write and produce her own material, Bobbie used her talents to bring country to the forefront of the music scene.

3. Alison Krauss, Most-Awarded Female Artist

Wins: 26 total

The Competition: Over the Recording Academy's 54 years of bestowing Grammys upon music's elite, Alison has been recognized more than any other woman. Her ever-evolving sound is reflected in the honors from her first in 1990 for Best Bluegrass Recording for 'I've Got That Old Feeling,' to her Best Country Female Performance for 'Baby, Now That I've Found You' in 1995 to her 13 wins with Union Station. The Illinois native's trophy case outweighs all of music's heavy-hitting ladies, with Aretha Franklin coming in second with 18, followed by Beyoncé with 16. The singer-songwriter-producer even in comes in third overall, behind the 22-year Chicago Symphony Orchestra conductor Sir Georg Solti (31) and Quincy Jones (27).

2. Dixie Chicks, 2007 Grammy Awards

Wins: Album, Song and Record (all-genre), and Country Album and Country Performance By a Duo or Group

The Competition: The country trio owned the 2006 Grammy Awards. Nearly three years after the now-infamous comment about George Bush, the trio released their first album since the incident, 'Taking the Long Way.' The album took the coveted multi-genre award from Gnarls Barkley, John Mayer, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Justin Timberlake. While the project's defiant lead single, 'Not Ready to Make Nice,' earned the Texas girls both overall honors for Song and Record of the Year, the tune also earned the two country wins -- ironic since the group didn't receive a single nod from either the Country Music Association or the Academy of Country Music that year.

1. Lady Antebellum, 2011 Grammy Awards

Wins: Record and Song (all-genre), and Country Performance by a Duo, Country Album and Country Song

The Competition: In April 2011, Lady Antebellum's 'Need You Now' became the most downloaded country song of all time. However, when the Grammys were passed out two months earlier, there was no indication that the trio would sweep, taking home the most gramophones of the night. They faced Cee Lo Green's hit 'F--- You' in both the Record and Song of the Year categories, as well as Eminem's smash 'Love the Way You Lie,' featuring Rihanna. The threesome walked away winning five of the six awards for which they were nominated -- Album of the Year went to Arcade Fire -- and gained the momentum needed for their third record, 'Own the Night,' to debut atop the multi-genre Billboard 200 album sales chart in September 2011.

Over the weekend, Carrie Underwood teamed with Aerosmith frontman and 'American Idol' host Steven Tyler for an episode of 'CMT Crossroads.' On this Sunday's Grammy telecast, the country star will pull a musical 180 and duet with an altogether different sort of music legend: Tony Bennett.

Carrie and Tony first teamed up last year, when they cut a version of 'It Had to Be You' for the crooner's 'Duets II' album.

"I would have sang anything with Tony! Whatever he wanted, I was there," Carrie tells PBS, explaining how psyched she was to partner with the 'I Left My Heart in San Francisco' singer. "He wants to do duets with people as themselves and have them bring their thing and him bring his thing, and I respect that so much, his way of recording."

Carrie is the latest in a string of country artists who have signed on for the 54th Grammy Awards, which will broadcast live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Others include Jason Aldean, who's set to sing with his 'Don't You Wanna Stay' duet partner Kelly Clarkson; the iconic Glenn Campbell, who will join forces with the Band Perry and Blake Shelton; and of course, America's sweetheart, Taylor Swift.

Dierks Bentley and Miranda Lambert will also be on hand, though they'll be presenting gramophone statuettes rather than strumming their guitars.

Dierks Bentley, Miranda Lambert, Gwyneth Paltrow and rapper/actor Drake are among the first presenters announced for the 54th Annual Grammy Awards. Miranda is the Recording Academy's reigning Female Country Vocalist, having taken home the trophy for 'The House That Built Me' last year.

As previously announced, Jason Aldean will perform with Kelly Clarkson during the show, while Glen Campbell joins the Band Perry and Blake Shelton on stage. Taylor Swift will also perform on the show.

The country performers are also well represented on the ballots. Jason is up for three Grammys: Country Duo/Group Performance ('Don't You Wanna Stay' with Kelly Clarkson); Country Album ('My Kinda Party'); and Country Solo Performance ('Dirt Road Anthem'). Taylor is also nominated for three awards: Country Album ('Speak Now'), Country Solo Performance ('Mean'); and Country Song ('Mean').

Additionally, Blake has two nods in the Country Solo Performance ('Honey Bee') and Country Album ('Red River Blue') categories. The Band Perry are nominated for the all-genre Best New Artist award, against Bon Iver, J. Cole, Nicki Minaj and Skrillex.

Prior to the telecast, Glen Campbell is among the individuals being honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Recording Academy. The accolade is given to individuals who have made "contributions of outstanding artistic significance to the field of recording." Glen's fellow country legend George Jones will also be honored at the Feb. 11 invitation-only ceremony, as will the Allman Brothers Band, Diana Ross, Antonio Carlos Jobim, the Memphis Horns and Gil Scott-Heron.

The 54th Annual Grammy Awards will air live from Los Angeles' Staples Center on CBS at 8:00pm ET.

Taylor Swift once again proves a great comedic actress, this time on the small screen. The 'Valentine's Day' star (and, oh yeah, multi-platinum-selling country music powerhouse) appears with LL Cool J in three clever commercials promoting the 54th annual Grammy Awards.

In the spots titled 'The Host' and 'Impressive,' Taylor pokes fun of the famed rapper, who is hosting the live awards broadcast (apparently unbeknownst to the blond beauty!). And in 'Get That Spot,' LL turns the tables on Taylor with a funny jab at the country superstar. Watch all three commercials below.

The Competition: Take the lead singer of Led Zeppelin and a bluegrass darling, and what do you get? 'Raising Sand,' an album that defied genre lines. The project's 'Please Read the Letter,' which never cracked Billboard's Top 100 tunes, went on to eclipse chart-toppers including Coldplay's 'Viva la Vida,' Leona Lewis' 'Bleeding Love' and M.I.A.'s 'Paper Planes.' The pair's platinum-selling album faced competition in the all-genre Album of the Year category from the triple-platinum 'Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends' from Coldplay and 'Tha Carter III' from Lil Wayne. It also scored a Folk/Americana Album win, while producing two songs that took away Pop ('Rich Woman') and Country ('Killing the Blues') Collaboration trophies.

6. Glen Campbell, 1969 Grammy Awards

Win: Best Album (all-genre)

The Competition: To give you some perspective, in 1967 this award went to the Beatles for a little album called 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.' The following year, the foursome were back in the running with their follow-up, 'Magical Mystery Tour.' Simon & Garfunkel were also vying for Best Album with the No. 1, 'Bookends,' which includes the most recognizable hit from their multi-decade career, 'Mrs. Robinson.' Rounding out the competition were José Feliciano -- who made 'Feliz Navidad' a holiday tradition -- and actor-turned-singer Richard Harris -- yes, the first Dumbledore -- with his debut. Granted, Glen was was well on his way to superstardom, co-starring with John Wayne in 'True Grit' and hosting his own 'Goodtime Hour' on CBS-TV, but that didn't make it any less surprising when 'By the Time I Get to Phoenix,' a No. 1 country album, surpassed what has since become some of most popular music of the 20th century.

5. Taylor Swift, 2010 Grammy Awards

Wins: Album (all-genre), and Female Country Performance, Country Song and Country Album

The Competition: When the nominations for the 2010 ceremony were announced, Taylor was named an astonishing eight times, second only to Beyoncé. The 20-year-old's sophomore release, 'Fearless,' took on the biggest stars of the year, Beyoncé's 'I Am ... Sasha Fierce,' the Black Eyed Peas' 'The E.N.D.,' Lady Gaga's 'The Fame' and the Dave Matthews Band's 'Big Whiskey and the Groogrux King.' Cementing her career in country, the singer-songwriter's 'White Horse,' which she co-penned, topped Jamey Johnson's critically-acclaimed 'High Cost of Living' as well as Billy Currington's wildly popular 'People Are Crazy.' In the Female Country Performance category, she ended Carrie Underwood's three-year winning streak, and in Country Album she surpassed Keith Urban's 'Defying Gravity' and the Zac Brown Band's celebrated debut 'The Foundation.'

4. Bobbie Gentry, 1968 Grammy Awards

Wins: Best New Artist and Female Vocal Performance (all-genre), and Contemporary Female Solo Vocal Performance

The Competition: On the strength of their mega-hits, 'Somebody to Love' and 'White Rabbit,' 1967 was the year of Jefferson Airplane, also New Artist contenders. When the envelope was opened and Bobbie's name was called, the South rose again, besting San Francisco's Summer of Love. The Mississippi native's 'Ode to Billie Joe' even prevailed over Record and Song of the Year winners 5th Dimension's 'Up, Up and Away.' Remembered as one of the first female country singers to write and produce her own material, Bobbie used her talents to bring country to the forefront of the music scene.

3. Alison Krauss, Most-Awarded Female Artist

Wins: 26

The Competition: Over the Recording Academy's 54 years of bestowing Grammys upon music's elite, Alison has been recognized more than any other woman. Her ever-evolving sound is reflected in the honors from her first in 1990 for Best Bluegrass Recording for 'I've Got That Old Feeling,' to her Best Country Female Performance for 'Baby, Now That I've Found You' in 1995 to her 13 wins with Union Station. The Illinois native's trophy case outweighs all of music's heavy-hitting ladies, with Aretha Franklin coming in second with 18, followed by Beyoncé with 16. The singer-songwriter-producer even in comes in third overall, behind the 22-year Chicago Symphony Orchestra conductor Sir Georg Solti (31) and Quincy Jones (27).

2. Dixie Chicks, 2007 Grammy Awards

Wins: Album, Song and Record (all-genre), and Country Album and Country Performance By a Duo

The Competition: The country trio owned the 2006 Grammy Awards. Nearly three years after the now-infamous comment about George Bush, the trio released their first album since the incident, 'Taking the Long Way.' The album took the coveted multi-genre award from Gnarls Barkley, John Mayer, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Justin Timberlake. While the project's defiant lead single, 'Not Ready to Make Nice,' earned the Texas girls both overall honors for Song and Record of the Year, the tune also earned the two country wins -- ironic since the group didn't receive a single nod from either the Country Music Association or the Academy of Country Music that year.

1. Lady Antebellum, 2011 Grammy Awards

Wins: Record and Song (all-genre), and Country Performance by a Duo, Country Album and Country Song

The Competition: In April 2011, Lady Antebellum's 'Need You Now' became the most downloaded country song of all time. However, when the Grammys were passed out two months earlier, there was no indication that the trio would sweep, taking home the most gramophones of the night. They faced Cee Lo Green's hit 'F--- You' in both the Record and Song of the Year categories, as well as Eminem's smash 'Love the Way You Lie,' featuring Rihanna. The threesome walked away winning five of the six awards for which they were nominated -- Album of the Year went to Arcade Fire -- and gained the momentum needed for their third record, 'Own the Night,' to debut atop the multi-genre Billboard 200 album sales chart in September 2011.

Glen Campbell, who is among those set to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award at an invitation-only ceremony on Feb. 11 just prior to next month's Grammy telecast, will join Grammy nominees the Band Perry and Blake Shelton for a special performance during the star-studded show on Feb. 12.

The five-time Grammy winner, who opened up last year about his battle with Alzheimer's disease, is currently on his Goodbye tour, which concludes March 24 in Silver Springs, Fla. See the remaining tour dates here.

The Lifetime Achievement Award is given to individuals who have made "contributions of outstanding artistic significance to the field of recording." Glen's fellow country legend George Jones will also be honored, as will the Allman Brothers Band, Diana Ross, Antonio Carlos Jobim, the Memphis Horns and Gil Scott-Heron.

The Arkansas-born singer-guitarist took home a total of four Grammys in 1967, earning two each for the iconic hits 'By the Time I Get to Phoenix' and 'Gentle on My Mind.' Those two songs, along with 'Wichita Lineman' are also in the Grammy Hall of Fame. In 1968, he earned the Album of the Year trophy for 'By the Time I Get to Phoenix.'

George Jones is the recipient of two Grammys (for 'Choices' and 'He Stopped Loving Her Today'). The latter tune and the hit single 'She Thinks I Still Care' are both in the Grammy Hall of Fame.

Blake Shelton is up for two Grammys: Best Country Solo Performance for 'Honey Bee' and Best Country Album for 'Red River Blue,' and the Band Perry are nominated for Best New Artist.

Taylor Swift is getting ready for music's biggest night and for what could be her biggest acting gig to date. The country superstar followed her trip to the Sundance Film Festival in Utah with a short plane ride to Los Angeles this week, where she filmed television promos for the 2012 Grammy Awards alongside rapper/actor LL Cool J, who is hosting the Feb. 11 broadcast.

Four-time Grammy winner Taylor is set to perform on the show, though it's not yet been revealed what song she'll sing. She's up for three of the coveted gold gramophones this year: Country Album of the Year for 'Speak Now,' and Best Country Song and Best Country Solo Performance for 'Mean.'

The 22-year-old beauty is now in London, where she was spotted Monday (Jan. 23) visiting the offices of Cameron Mackintosh, the renowned theater producer of shows such as 'Cats,' 'The Phantom of the Opera' and 'Les Miserables.' This, of course, adds even more fuel to rumors that Taylor has scored the role of Eponine in the movie version of 'Les Miserables.'

Her trip across the pond isn't all business, as Taylor has also been snapped by British paparazzi shopping and visiting the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fountain in Hyde Park. (See a photo of her rainy day park visit below.)

Jason Aldean, Matraca Berg, Kenny Chesney, Keb' Mo' and Deana Carter were among the stars shining brightly Tuesday night (Jan. 17) in downtown Nashville, as Music City celebrated its Grammy nominations in style at a lavish bash at the Loew's Vanderbilt Plaza Hotel. NARAS rolled out the red carpet for all of its 2012 Nashville nominees at the celeb-studded event, which included artists from the worlds of country, Christian, bluegrass, blues, soul and rock all mingling and celebrating the countdown to the 54th Annual Grammy Awards on Feb. 12.

On the red carpet just outside the bash, Jason Aldean mused on the feeling of receiving his very first Grammy nods on top of a year filled with awards, platinum sales and chart-topping songs. "Last year was such a great year, such a career-changing year for us, and we ended the year by finding out we had three nominations for [the Grammys], so what do you say?!" Jason tells The Boot. "This is as big as it gets for an artist, so I'm obviously really excited and was excited before I found out we were performing! Now we're performing on the show, so it's getting better and better. I've never been to the Grammys, never had a reason to go, so the fact that I even have a reason to go now is pretty exciting!"

Jason is up for three of the prestigious gold gramophones, for Best Country Album for 'My Kinda Party,' Best Country Solo Performance for his smash hit, 'Dirt Road Anthem,' and Best Country Duo/Group Performance for his duet with Kelly Clarkson, 'Don't You Wanna Stay.' He'll take the stage with Kelly to perform that tune during the Grammy broadcast on CBS.

George Jones was on hand to celebrate his Lifetime Achievement Award from the organization, and seemed happy to be milling amongst fellow artists like Kenny Chesney, Steven Curtis Chapman, Tom T. Hall, and Jason Aldean (who, along with wife Jessica, stopped to pose for a pic with the country legend and his wife, Nancy). Hall walked the carpet with Eric Brace and Peter Cooper, the producers of his CD, 'I Love: Tom T. Hall's Songs of Fox Hollow,' which is nominated in the Best Children's Album category. A surprise last-minute guest, Kenny Chesney popped in from work on his new album in the Caribbean with a pair of hot blonde and brunette bookends - nominees Deana Carter and Matraca Berg -- on each arm. All three were celebrating their nomination for Best Country Song for Kenny's recent smash with Grace Potter, 'You And Tequila,' written by Deana and Matraca. Kenny is also up for Best Country Duo/Group Performance for the song.

Inside the gala event, artists like Keb Mo, Eric Paslay, Steven Curtis Chapman, Brandon Heath, writers David Lee Murphy and Dave Barnes, and tons of industry guests and leaders dined on tenderloin, fish tacos, grilled vegetables and other yummy dishes as they mingled and chatted with excitement about the upcoming awards show, which will be held in Los Angeles on Feb 12. Jason Aldean is not only looking forward to attending his first-ever Grammy Awards as a nominee, he will also take the stage during the evening's broadcast. The 'Tattoos on This Town' singer joins Kelly Clarkson, Taylor Swift, Nicki Minaj, Foo Fighters and Bruno Mars in the first round of performers announced for the 54th Annual Grammy telecast on Sunday, Feb. 12.

Jason is nominated for three Grammys, for Best Country Duo/Group Performance ('Don't You Wanna Stay' with Kelly Clarkson), Best Country Album ('My Kinda Party') and Best Country Solo Performance ('Dirt Road Anthem'). But the multi-platinum-selling singer says actually taking home an award would be the icing on the cake.

"The Grammys are the biggest there is in music," he shared with CBS News. "My birthday's a couple weeks after that, so that's a pretty good month. That's my lucky month."

Taylor, a four-time Grammy winner, is also nominated for three more trophies, including one for Best Country Song, for 'Mean.' Other nominees include Eric Church, Lady Antebellum, Carrie Underwood and Blake Shelton.

George Jones and Glen Campbell have been named among the recipients of next year's Special Merit Award given by the Recording Academy. Both artists will receive Lifetime Achievement Awards during a special invitation-only ceremony Feb. 11, 2012, prior to the 54th Annual Grammy Awards.

The Lifetime Achievement Award is given to individuals who have made "contributions of outstanding artistic significance to the field of recording." The Allman Brothers Band, Diana Ross, Antonio Carlos Jobim, the Memphis Horns and Gil Scott-Heron will also be recognized with the Country Music Hall of Famers.

With a career spanning an illustrious 55 years, the 80-year-old 'Possum' isn't slowing down anytime soon. "I would love to do a few albums with some different artists," George tells Billboard. "As far as any singles go, I'm not really looking forward to that. I would love to do some duets again, maybe like some of the funny things that Ernest Tubb and Red Foley used to do years ago."

Glen, who opened up this year about his battle with Alzheimer's disease, will resume his farewell tour January 3 at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium. The 18-city trek concludes March 24 in Silver Springs, Fla. Get a full list of dates here.

The nominees in the major categories for the 54th annual Grammy awards will be announced on Wednesday (Nov. 30) and there are, as always, a handful of country categories in which you'll find your favorite artists competing. In recent years, country acts have also found their way onto the list in other categories, going head-to-head against acts from other genres for such coveted honors as Album of the Year. Since 2002, in fact, four winners of that award have been country discs ('O Brother, Where Art Thou?,' Taking the Long Way' by the Dixie Chicks, 'Raising Sand' by Alison Krauss and Robert Plant, and Taylor Swift's 'Fearless.')

The Boot takes a shot at which country acts we think will be in the running for Grammy gold this year.

Album of the Year: Two previous nominees in this category have a pretty fair chance of repeating. Taylor Swift is likely to get a nod for her latest album, 'Speak Now,' and five-time Grammy victors last year, Lady Antebellum, whose 'Need You Now' lost the ultimate prize to Arcade Fire, could get another chance with 'Own the Night.' Although he's probably a long-shot, we'd love to see Glen Campbell nominated for the brilliant 'Ghost on the Canvas.' He won the award in 1969 for 'By the Time I Get to Phoenix.' Alison Krauss, whose 26 wins make her the most awarded singer in Grammy history, could add more to her tally for this year's 'Paper Airplane,' with her band, Union Station. There's also plenty of Grammy buzz surrounding the folky, alt-country 'Barton Hollow' by the Civil Wars. A nod in the top category wouldn't be too surprising. Still, none of them are likely to win. The gramophone will either go to Adele for '21' or Tony Bennett for 'Duets II.'

Expect Nashville to have at least one, if not two names contending for the all-genre Best New Artist honors. Coming off their three big wins at the CMA Awards along with crossover success for their triple-platinum 'If I Die Young,' the Band Perry are a sure bet. The sibling trio's chances are arguably as good as the widely suggested front-runner, rap darling Nicki Minaj. Nashville-based duo the Civil Wars also have a very good chance of sliding into this category, as do another indie act, Foster the People. Other possibilities in this coveted category are all from the rock and pop worlds and could include Bon Iver, Jessie J, Hot Chelle Rae, Cage the Elephant and/or LMFAO.

Taking a look at the country categories, which are among those to have been restructured for 2012 (meaning the competition will be even stiffer this year!), it's likely that country-pop crossovers Taylor and Lady A will dominate. Both are practically guaranteed to snag Country Album of the Year nods and could also find themselves in the Country Solo and Country Duo/Group categories, respectively.

The newly-designated Country Solo Performance category (combining the previous Male and Female Solo Performance categories) could do worse than to include 'Ghost on the Canvas,' or longtime Grammy favorite Emmylou Harris' 'Hard Bargain.' A spot in the Country Group/Duo category for Alison Krauss and Union Station's 'Paper Airplane' is practically a shoo-in. But when it comes to some of country's biggest hitmakers, expect Blake Shelton, nominated with Trace Adkins last year for 'Hillbilly Bone,' to be singled out for his album 'Red River Blue,' and to snare a Country Solo nod for 'Honey Bee.'

Mrs. Shelton (Miranda Lambert), nominated last year for 'Revolution' (and a first-time Grammy winner for 'The House That Built Me'), put her latest disc, 'Four the Record,' out just a bit too late to qualify for this year's awards (although her single, 'Baggage Claim' may have come in under the wire). She's more likely to get some Grammy love for the critically-acclaimed Pistol Annies' trio project 'Hell on Heels.' With his win for CMA Album of the Year, Jason Aldean has an excellent shot at a few nods for 'My Kinda Party,' including Country Album of the Year and the all-genre Record of the Year for his 'Don't You Wanna Stay' duet with Kelly Clarkson. The disc may be over a year old, but Jason's party is just getting started. And don't count out Brad Paisley's 'This Is Country Music.' It's the kind of album the Grammy voters love.

A few acts who could surprise? Luke Bryan could snag a mention for 'Tailgates & Tanlines,' as could the Eli Young Band for the album 'Life at Best,' featuring the No. 1 'Crazy Girl.' Eric Church's 'Chief' is also a strong contender. Of the women who could score nominations, potential contenders include Ashton Shepherd for 'Where Country Grows,' LeAnn Rimes for 'Lady and Gentlemen' and Dolly Parton for 'Better Day.'

Hot on the heels of their three big wins at the CMA Awards, the Band Perry have been tapped to perform on the 'Grammy Nominations Concert Live! - Countdown to Music's Biggest Night.' The CBS show is set to broadcast live from Los Angeles, Nov. 30 at 10:00 PM ET.

Jason Aldean, Lady Gaga, Sugarland, Rihanna, Usher, Ludacris and Lupe Fiasco join the country trio as the night's performers on the one-hour broadcast. Plus, details about a "truly iconic group" that will reunite for the first time on this year's Grammy stage will be announced. Rapper/actor LL Cool J will host the show, which in addition to live performances will also include the big reveal of nominees in several categories for the 2012 Grammy Awards.

After their performance on the live TV show, siblings Kimberly, Reid and Neil Perry will also play their own exclusive concert for the fans at Nokia Theatre.


The 54th Annual Grammy Awards will air live from Los Angeles' Staples Center, Feb. 12 at 8:00 PM ET on CBS.

Sugarland are no strangers to the ceremony's stage after taking home trophies in 2009 for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals and Best Country Song, for 'Stay.'

Country superstar Jason Aldean will join pop sensation Lady Gaga as performers for the 'Grammy Nominations Concert Live! - Countdown to Music's Biggest Night.' The dynamic entertainers are the first two announced performers for the concert, which will be broadcast live on Nov. 30 from Los Angeles' Nokia Theatre.

Rapper LL Cool J will return as host for the one-hour concert special, with several categories for the 54th annual Grammy Awards to be revealed throughout the live telecast. Tickets go on sale Friday (Oct. 28) at 1:00 PM ET and can be purchased at http://www.nokiatheatrelalive.com/.

Country music has swept the Grammy awards for the past four years, with Lady Antebellum collecting trophies last year in two major categories for their smash single, 'Need You Now.' Taylor Swift took home the biggest award of the ceremony in 2009, winning the coveted all-genre Album of the Year trophy for 'Fearless,' with Alison Krauss and rocker Robert Plant doing the same with their collaborative effort, 'Raising Sand,' in 2008. The Dixie Chicks also took home the Album of the Year trophy in 2007 for 'Taking the Long Way,' also winning Record and Song of the Year for 'Not Ready to Make Nice.'

Additional performers for the Grammy nominations telecast are expected to be announced shortly. The 54th Annual Grammy Awards are set to air Feb. 1.

Miranda Lambert may go up against Blake Shelton. Keith Urban may vie with Carrie Underwood. And who will be the victor if Alan Jackson faces Reba McEntire? The 54th annual Grammy Awards in 2012 will have 31 fewer categories than the 2011 awards, mainly because gender-based categories in country, rock, pop and R&B will be eliminated.

"I think the positive side is we've taken a good, serious look at what we're doing," Recording Academy president/CEO Neil Portnow tells Billboard of the move from 109 to 78 awards. "We contemporized it, we organized it and we visioned it in a way that will suit us going into the future. In other words, if you just continue business as usual, at some point, typically, you're going to hit some sort of a pothole in the road."

What that means for country acts and their fans is, of course, fewer awards. Now instead of seven award categories, country will have four. The country award categories will now be Best Country Solo Performance, Best Country Duo/Group Performance, Best Country Song and Best Country Album.

In addition to changes in the R&B, pop and rock categories, roots music will have five categories instead of nine. The Best Americana Album and Best Bluegrass Album categories remain intact.

There are a few other across-the-board changes, too. One of the most significant requires that each category have at least 40 distinct artist entries, not the 25 previously allowed. If a category receives between 25-39 entries, only three recordings will be nominated. If fewer than 25 entries are submitted the category will go on "hiatus" and no award will be presented. If a category receives fewer than 25 entries for three consecutive years, the category will be discontinued.
