Loretta Lynn Readies Two New Recordings

Country music legend Loretta Lynn is following up her Grammy-winning 2004 album 'Van Lear Rose,' with not one but two new recording projects.

The 73-year-old tells Billboard she's working on an album of new material that could be ready by late spring, saying that the album will be in the traditional country vein but will deal with modern issues.

"(A friend) told me: 'Loretta, don't quit writing, because if you do, no one in Nashville is writing songs,'" Lynn says. "I write about what's happening today and how I feel."

Loretta Lynn Squabbles With Son

A Loretta Lynn concert is typically a family affair, as her son, two daughters and granddaughter often join the country legend on stage. And sometimes concertgoers witness a little playful family feuding.

The Washington Post reports that Lynn's son Ernest Ray, who plays guitar in her band, gave his mom an especially hard time at a show Saturday in Washington, D.C. Often called the band's "designated drinker," Ray reportedly interrupted his mom several times to ask the crowd for beers. He also threated to move back into Lynn's home with "all my five wives."

'Coal Miner's Daughter'
-- Loretta Lynn (1970)

The bottom lines: "We were poor but we had love/That's the one thing my daddy made sure of/He shoveled coal to make a poor man's holler."

As she says in the opening line, Lynn was born a coal miner's daughter -- one of eight kids raised in a cabin with no electricity and no running water. Her description of Depression-era Appalachia almost literally put Butcher Hollow, Ky., on the map.

Countriest Country Lyrics: No. 1

"In the summer time, we didn't have shoes to wear, but in the winter time, we'd all get a brand new pair/From a mail-order catalog, money made from selling a hog/Daddy always managed to get the money from somewhere"

Loretta Lynn Sees Dead People

Loretta Lynn apparently has some unwanted guests in her home -- ghosts! The country legend has enlisted the help of celebrity 'ghost whisperer' James Van Praagh to rid her Hurricane Mills, Tenn. mansion of spirits.

Van Praagh's visit to Lynn's home was filmed by the TV show, 'The Insider.' He confirmed on camera that the home is indeed haunted by several ghosts, telling Lynn, "I think people were killed here," and that he could see "blood everywhere." Van Praagh was so spooked, in fact, that he broke his promise to spend the night in the house.

'After the Fire Is Gone' --Conway Twitty & Loretta Lynn (1971)

Wandering Words: "Love is where you find it, when you find no love at home."

"Me and Conway never once come close to any affair," Lynn wrote in her 2002 memoir 'Still Woman Enough,' "even though half of Nashville thought we did." But on this and several other collaborations, their voices crackled with so much desire, how could even the most trusting fan have thought otherwise?
