Lady Antebellum Not Prepping for a Pop Career

Lady Antebellum's recent five-week country chart-topper, 'Need You Now,' is currently sitting in the Top 10 on Billboard's Hot 100 pop chart, alongside such artists as Lady Gaga, Ludacris and Train.

The trio didn't seek pop airplay, though, it just happened. "First and foremost, we're country artists," Charles Kelley tells The Boot. "The song just started getting played randomly, so our label obviously saw some opportunity there ... basically, to reach more fans. But we're not going anywhere. I think the sound of this record -- that specific song -- crosses genres. But I think a song like 'American Honey' probably won't have that kind of flavor to do that. It's been cool to see. It's obviously been great for our career, but we're not going anywhere."

Luke Bryan weighs in on the huge success his pals are having, saying, "From the outside watching their career ... it's so cool to see that they're really probably the biggest act in music now, certainly in the top three or four. I think when you're lucky enough to crossover, and then you go after that, it's a nightmare ... It's highly unlikely I'll ever crossover to the level [they have]. I'm just a country [boy]. 'Do I' was my biggest shot at massive cross over."

The members of Lady A certainly are appreciative of the attention, but want their fans to know that they just want to represent country music in the best possible light. "[Country music has] really broadened itself a lot " says Charles. "It's American music. We're just trying to represent country music well. It's nice to see more fans come in the genre. Taylor Swift has opened that up, Rascal Flatts have opened the doors to that, Keith Urban had several records do that, Shania Twain, so we're definitely not the first. But we definitely want everyone to realize that we're not going anywhere either. We're just gonna create our music and wherever it's gonna get played, let it be!"

Lady Antebellum are currently sitting in the Top 15 on the country charts with their hit, 'American Honey,' the second single from their 'Need You Now' album.
